HP StorageWorks MSL4048 Tape Library 

-Tape Library Error Codes

If an error occurs during operation of the library, the library stops the current operation
and displays an error code on the LCD screen. Unless otherwise noted in the
troubleshooting document, try to resolve the error by cycling power to the library
and retrying the last operation. If the error persists, contact the support personnel.
Also access error information from the Support sub-menu item,
 see Viewing logs (Support > View Logs) .

Explanation of error codes

OCP errors

Error codes are displayed in pop-up messages when an error occurs during an
 operation that is initiated from the operator control panel.
The message shows the error code and a description of the error.
For example:
8D 52 
Mechanical Block
The error log contains a list of all errors, with a separate row for each error.
The log shows the Date/Time, Code and Description.
For example:
24/06/05 01:48 D7 50 System Error
where:
24/06/05 = date in the format DD-MM-YY
01:48 = hours in 24h clock format. For example: 1:00 p.m. is 13:00. 
D7 = main error code
50 = error sub-code

RMI error log

On the RMI error log, an error entry is displayed as:
05.11.09 13:24:23.02 LIB/ERR, 80 9B 37 31 - - - Robotic Failure.
05.11.09 = the date (YY.MM.DD) 
13:24:23.02 = the time (HH:MM:SS.ss) 
80 9B 37 31 = the error code information 80 = hard error 
(40 would be a recovered error), 9B = main
error code, 37 = error sub-code, 31 = sub-code specific 
information for factory use only.
